Do you bring a “capitalism and colonialism ruin everything but the human spirit is indomitable” vibe to the workplace? Us too.
If you want to co-create a community of helping professionals who are always striving to practice in a liberatory, ethical, & power-balancing way, then you’re exactly who we’re looking for.

Our Beliefs
Selkie Counselling is founded on the values of Justice, Humility, Reciprocity, Humour, & Compassion. We seek to uphold the dignity of everyone we work with, mitigate power imbalances and injustice, & seeking to promote the agency of all within the context of oppressive societal & political systems.
We hold true that systems of capitalism, colonialism, white supremacy, homo/trans/queer-antagonism, ableism, anti-fatness, xenophobia, shape ours and our client’s experiences in the world, and that responses of distress are a sign of wellness in an unwell world.
We are a Fat Liberationist practice that centers the dignity of fat people of all identities and resists diet-culture, the individualization of health, and pathological views of fat bodies.
In practice, we strive to:
Centre justice-oriented ways of being in the world, as well as practicing counselling,
Treat one another with dignity, respect, compassion, and a sense of humour,
Resist perfectionism, allowing grace for ourselves and others when mistakes are made and choosing to hold ourselves accountable when we need to make repair,
Practice self-reflection around our privileged identities and uproot unconscious bias in our work,
Resist normative ideas of professionalism that so often discriminate against disabled, neurodivergent, racialized, and fat people,
Prioritize our humanness in the work, acknowledging we each are experiencing a unique context,
Act with maturity, openness, and curiosity in the face of critical feedback or interpersonal differences,
Operate with transparency in all work, especially the care of our counselling clients,
Disrupt diet-talk and fat-talk (any moralizing of food, bodies, or movement. ie., “I’m so bad for eating a cookie… I have a sugar hangover… I feel fat today… etc.”),
Respect the privacy of our clients and colleagues, not sharing any identifying information of clients nor any personal details of colleagues that are not publicly available,
Refrain from using any form of AI, especially as it pertains to our clients, acknowledging it’s devastating impacts on marginalized communities and our environment,
Ask for permission and wait for consent before giving advice,
and Maintain clear, effective, and timely communication with one another about our workflow, needs, and boundaries.
